CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

“Welcome to Raising Caine on a hot Monday morning in Key West, Florida.” Caine dropped a sexy wink at Darwin who rolled his eyes in response. “It’s good to see you Darwin. How was your first weekend as the newest resident on the island?”

“Good morning, Caine. My weekend was pretty boring. I spent it looking at cars online. Now that I’m officially a local, I’ll need a car of my own. How was your weekend?”

They’d rehearsed this opening bit while they’d been sitting in the conference room going over the weekend’s political headlines trying to determine what they’d talk about today. It was going to be a pretty explosive show what with the billionaire presidential candidate, who was now the presumptive Republican nominee, spouting off about banning Muslims from entering the United States. “My weekend was busy. Come to think of it, I don’t believe I got more than a few hours sleep total.” Caine could see Rhett in the broadcast booth shaking his head.

He and Darwin had spent Sunday morning cuddled up in bed exchanging long, slow kisses. Once they’d showered, together of course, they’d gotten dressed and along with Sam had gone food shopping. After that, they’d gone back to Sam’s house and spent the rest of the day in the pool, napping and making out.

They’d both helped a very nervous Sam pick out what he would wear to his dinner meeting with Rhett at the Ocean Key. Darwin had noticed how much Sam would freak out each time one of them said the word “date,” so Darwin had started calling it a dinner meeting. Caine had texted Rhett with that little gem so he wouldn’t accidentally say the “D” word. After Sam left for the night, they’d caught up on all of the political shows Darwin had recorded on his DVR, each of them taking separate notes.

Darwin rolled his eyes. “The one thing I did manage to see was my candidate for president, or should I say my former candidate for president rallying people in South Carolina around the idea of banning Muslims from entering the United States.”

Caine’s eyes popped open in shock. They’d spoken about what Darwin’s candidate had said at the political rally, but this was the first he was hearing of Darwin jumping off his bandwagon. “Can you say that again? I don’t think I heard you correctly. Are you saying you no longer support the billionaire businessman?”

Darwin gave Caine a brilliant smile. “Now hold your horses, Caine. I haven’t jumped ship to the Democrats. I’ve just had some time to rethink my position on his stance on the issues.”

“Tell me about that Darwin. Now that he’s become the presumptive Republican nominee for president, I’m sure a lot of Republicans are waking up asking themselves what the hell they’re going to do now that he’s the only conservative candidate left in the race. I think your thought process could really help our listeners.”

Nodding, Darwin took a deep breath, seemingly to gather his thoughts.
